I think that the answer to all three of the these questions is a definite "Yes".
However, regarding the second question: "Can we ever get to a point where we treat each other with respect no matter what creed, color or religion?"
I think that the more important issue is not "can" but "will." People are capable of doing anything they set their minds to, but whether they will want to is an entirely different undertaking.
